Dick Bowdler
Senior consultant
Specialisms: wind farms and industrial deafness
After leaving university with a degree in physics, Dick joined the theatre where he stage-managed shows in London's West End and New York's Broadway. He then worked for the architect Cedric Price advising on lighting and acoustics.
In 1970 he joined Sandy Brown Associates, one of the UK's first firms of acoustic consultants, and became a partner in 1973. He helped set up and ultimately ran the Scottish office for 13 years before leaving to set up New Acoustics with
Colin Frier in 1987. Dick stepped down as a director in March this year but continues to share his expertise as a consultant.
Apart from consulting on the whole range of the firm's projects, Dick has acted as an expert witness in industrial deafness, noise nuisance and other civil cases and in planning inquiries. He has been an expert witness in 16 industrial deafness cases (mostly in the Court of Session), 4 nuisance cases, 22 planning inquiries and 3 other legal cases.
